The Celestial Minstrel and the Gentle Resistance Album Release

September 6, 2024

Greetings all~

I have a new album coming out. I’m not sure why I haven’t posted much in the way of self promotion on my own website, but i’m doing so know because my artistic efforts and the website are linked. Ideally, they support one another, but I’m horrible at monetizing things because honestly, i find it somewhat distasteful.

But the website itself, costs money. Not a ton, but enough that it is a concern every year as the bills come due. I love interviewing people, I wish I had more time and plan to devote some more energy to both interviews and writing about music, but it is hard when it is a drain on the family finances. None of which is your issue, except that I have to figure out how to tweak things a bit so that I’m not paying to work here. There are domain names and the cost of the website itself, there is the technology cost to factor in, and so on.

The music making, I can’t help that, it is compulsive creation on my part and i have never expected it to make money. That is not the point at all. Would it be cool if it contributed to paying for itself? yes, absolutely, but it is going to happen no matter what and i’m fine with that.

But, I can offer the music out to the world with the understanding that buying it digitally or in physical form supports the site and in doing so keeps the interviews I’ve been doing accessible.

I can also tell you that I have a little compilation album coming out soon~ I’ve been overwhelmed with taking too much on as of late, but it has been waiting to see the world for awhile now. It is a strange little thing and I kind of love it like that. I hope to make some more, so if you’re a musician and interested in contributing, or a visual artist interested in donating some album art, reach out to me at continuousrevel@gmail.com and I’ll gladly add you to the next one.

Embedded below is the current album I’m releasing. I have more coming, a variety of them actually, that all sound quite different, but I’ll talk about those later.

Consider sharing the album with others and telling people about the interviews you see here on the site. Consider purchasing it, if so inclined. Go to the ‘About’ link if you want to just donate a bit towards the cause.

You will also be able to purchase Compact Discs, starting the evening of 9/6/2024 from the label Relics of the Eternal City~ you'll be able to purchase them through this link (quantities are limited):

Whatever support you offer, I kindly accept.

The Celestial Minstrel and the Gentle Resistance
by Continuous Revelations (the liner notes)

This chapter of the story starts with the impending threat of organized forgetting, which is descending on a forested planet and unleashing turmoil. Our protagonist, the celestial minstrel, falls to the planet during one of his adventures, either called or by chance, and is recovered by the smith Wayland. After experiencing a rebirth at Wayland’s forge, the minstrel is then taken to a lake where the lady Nymanne quenches the steel and tempers the blade. Finding his way in this strange new world of green and darkness both threatening and benign, the minstrel eventually falls in league with the gentle resistance- the lepidopterans. As they pushed back against the unknowing swallowing the meanings, the moon fell in shards of light and shadow through the forest. With the dawn came the arrival of the heliomancer, who reading the light advised them to partake in the restorative process of deep reverie. Their dreaming and remembering awoke or brought into being new energies who manifested in old forms, thus the verdant queens stir the collective consciousness and the world forest remembers. The narratives take hold again and with the breath loosed, the forgetting is cleansed. The minstrel, less an agent of change than a witness to a passing of seasons, takes what he has learned in his heart and embarks on the return to the stars.

This album is dedicated to my two former collaborators and dear friends, Michael G. Nastos and James 'Wolf' McIntyre. I am so grateful to both of you for contributing so much to who I am as a musician and a person. I miss both of you deeply. Thank you for your friendships.

Instruments played:
Thumb Piano, Steel Tongue Drums, Wooden Flutes, Bawu, Recorder, Wooden Frogs, Toy Piano, and Harmonica.

On this album, I thought I'd challenge myself by stepping away from the synth and my electric guitar~ instruments I've definitely focused on more since becoming a father and making most of my music when my daughter is sleeping. I recorded the majority of this album in one day of the summer of 2023, running the acoustic sounds through a series of effect pedals. My next couple of albums return to the synths again, but I will most certainly return to the acoustic instruments in the near future. They are where I started.
